Reported Speech (Dolaylı anlatım), birinin söylediklerini doğrudan tırnak içinde aktarmak yerine, kendi cümlelerimizle dolaylı olarak aktarmaktır. "O şunu söyledi" veya "O bana bunu anlattı" şeklinde ifade edilir.
Say ve Tell Farkı
Say ve tell her ikisi de "söylemek" anlamına gelir ama kullanımları farklıdır:
Say: Doğrudan nesne alır (söylenen şey). "Say something to someone" veya "say (that) + cümle". Kişi belirtilecekse to kullanılır: say to me.
Tell: Kişi (object) mutlaka belirtilir. "Tell someone something" veya "tell someone (that) + cümle".
Örnek: She said (that) she was tired. — Yorgun olduğunu söyledi.
Örnek: She told me (that) she was tired. — Bana yorgun olduğunu söyledi.
Örnek: He said to us that he would come. — Bize geleceğini söyledi.
⚠️ "He said me" YANLIŞTIR. Doğrusu "He told me" veya "He said to me". Tell'de nesne zorunludur.
Zaman Kaydırma (Backshift)
Geçmiş zamanla aktarım yaparken (said, told) fiil zamanları bir adım geriye kayar:
Present Simple → Past Simple
Present Continuous → Past Continuous
Past Simple → Past Perfect (veya bazen Past Simple kalabilir)
Present Perfect → Past Perfect
will → would
can → could
must → had to / must
Örnek: "I am busy" → She said (that) she was busy.
Örnek: "I have finished" → He said (that) he had finished.
Örnek: "We will help you" → They said (that) they would help me.
Örnek: "I can swim" → She said (that) she could swim.
Zamansal ifadeler de değişir: now → then, today → that day, yesterday → the day before, tomorrow → the next day.
Reported Questions (Dolaylı Sorular)
Yes/No sorularda if veya whether kullanılır. Soru kelimeli sorularda (what, when, where...) aynı soru kelimesi kullanılır. Cümle yapısı soru değil, düz cümle haline gelir.
Örnek: "Do you like coffee?" → She asked if/whether I liked coffee.
Örnek: "Where did you go?" → He asked where I had gone.
Örnek: "What time does it start?" → They asked what time it started.
💡 Reported question'da yardımcı fiil (do/does/did) kaldırılır; fiil zamanına göre değiştirilir.
Reported Commands and Requests (Emir ve Rica)
Emir ve ricada tell/ask + (object) + to-infinitive kullanılır. Olumsuz emirlerde not to kullanılır.
Örnek: "Close the door" → He told me to close the door.
Örnek: "Please help me" → She asked me to help her.
Örnek: "Don't touch that" → They told us not to touch that.

told — Kişi (me) belirtildiğinde "tell" kullanılır. "Say" ile "said to me" de olur ama "told me" daha yaygın.

where I lived — Soru kelimeli reported question: where + düz cümle. Present Simple → Past Simple.
4. "Don't be late" → The teacher told us _____.
not to be late — Olumsuz emir: tell + object + not to + V1.
5. "Have you seen my keys?" → He asked _____ I had seen his keys.
if / whether — Yes/No sorularda if veya whether kullanılır. "my" → "his" (zamir değişimi).
